Private, semi-private, and group lessons are offered to give young horse-lovers access to horses and an opportunity to learn how to ride, have clear communication and quality horsemanship to prevent harm to both horse and rider. Please go to Youth Progams for additional information for all the types of classes offered.
IHCYR is a helmet facility. All riders must wear a helmet while riding at the ranch at all times.
Requirements: Youth Ranch Activities
- Ages 9+ with a desire to learn (8 and under may have private lessons on a child- by-child basis)
- Helmets required
- Long pants
- Shoes or boots with a heel; no tennis shoes!

All instructors are CHA certified,( previously or currently) and safety trained with CHA Standards

A portion of all riding instruction fees goes to the care and upkeep of IHCYR, but only gifts above the set fees are tax deductible.
Saddle-Up Classes - Younger children are able to take the saddle up classes with Instructors permission.

Contact your instructor for questions concerning time changes to come early or later. Once you are signed up for the classes your instructor will be your main source of communication. You may email ihcyranch@yahoo.com if you are unable to reach your instructor.
Saddle-Up classes provide information on horse safety, nutrition, horse behavior, riding skills, grooming skills, and the ability to control a horse. Beginner, intermediate and Advanced levels availalbe. Students will also clean a stall, as if it was their own horse to care for. This class is designed to prepare students for horse ownership and independent skills. These classes are longer and are in a package of 4 instruction times. Your student will care for and clean the horse they will be riding or help another horses stall area if needed. Remember, a minimun of 24 hour cancellation notice must be given or you will be charged for the class. These classes are a longer time frame at a very reduced cost. Thank you
Classes run for four weeks and may be started at any time.
- Pre-register for all classes.
- 4 weeks — $100 package
- Ages - check with your instructor.
- Class sizes limited.
- Bring a warm jacket, gloves, and water bottle!
