Horse Rehabilitation
When horses are brought to the Youth Ranch, they are cared for and supported through donations. We give first aid care if needed, hoof care, proper nutrition and training to help them rehabilitate so they can become useful horses in the Youth Ranch activities or they become adoptable.
Horses surrendered or donated to IHCYR will be accessed as necessary for all veterinary care, farrier care, training accessments and will not be adopted, fostered or leased off the premises until this is successfully completed. Horses that may be approved for adoptions, fostering or leasing may only be done when the Adoption Requirements are met by the adopter(s).
General Rules:
Adopted horse must never be neglected, abandonded, or inhumanely treated.(example: you must provide regular farrier and vetinary care, de-worming program, proper nutrition and exercise etc.)
Adopters must have horse experience or will need to take horsemanship classes before the horse(s) lease the care of IHCYR. The classes will need to be approved by IHCYR but do not have to be done through IHCYR. Professional Instructors or trainers will also be approved.
The adopter agrees that the horse cannot be sold, traded, leased or given away or used for any commercial purpose (including breeding). If an adopter cannot continue with the care and adopter is responsible for finding an appropriate home that will meet the same adoption IHCYR requirements and will need to be approved by IHCYR, otherwise the horse will be returned to IHCYR.
The horse(s) must never be sent to an auction
IHCYR reserves the right to provide life long follow-up to all adoptions. IHCYR

Donations and volunteers make it possible for IHCYR to care for horses brought to us in need of love and a home.
Many horse have come to us for care, many have been adopted or have received their wings.
Ruby, Sterling and Buttons were some of these beautiful friends who taught many children and adults to ride, and gave thier love to us. We miss these three who stayed with us in the school.
Brownie, was adopted gained her weight, and would not go sound for her adopted family. She is in a program in Westcliff where she does not need to be ridden.
Grey was given to a family in Gunnison, where he has so much room and children to love him. He was blind in one eye and would not go sound for the youth here in the program. He has an amazing home with Alan from Esty ranch.
National, Dartanyan, Preacher, Buster, Spirit, Splash, Laredo, Rio, Cheyenne, Sierra Rose, Reign, Finny, are some of the friends who have been adopted or given new homes after coming to IHCYR.
